President Reagan’s “Tear down this wall!” speech and “Black Monday” on Wall Street have the attention of most Americans. As the 1980s comes to a close, the USS Vincennes shoots down an Iranian passenger jet and George H.W. Bush is elected President. The country experiences massive Yellowstone Park fires and the Exxon Valdez oil spill.
