It was just one year after the Second Impressionist Exhibition that the artists agreed to stage a third one. Launched in 1877, Renoir, Monet, Degas, and others referred to themselves as "Exposition des Impressionistes." After the critical and financial failure of their previous exhibition, many were surprised by this act. Art historian Jeff Mishur discusses the highlights of that 1877 exhibit and the response it received from the Parisian art world. Works to be discussed include many familiar paintings by Monet, Renoir, and Caillebotte.
