Written at the end of Queen Elizabeth's reign, Twelfth Night is a comedy about mistaken identities and misplaced love, as shipwrecked twins Viola and Sebastian become entangled in romantic chaos after Viola disguises herself as a page and is loved by Countess Olivia while secretly loving Duke Orsino. After emerging from Olivia's estate in Illyria, and feeling quite civilized, plunge into the blood-red, hypermasculine world of Macbeth, Shakespeare's welcome gift to Elizabeth's witch-obsessed successor, King James I.
