Floating between our ears is the highlight of human evolution, a conscious mind that allows us to think, feel, and ponder deep questions about the universe. How did such a mind come to be? Journey of the Mind explores the emergence of consciousness by describing a series of increasingly complex minds, starting three billion years ago with the emergence of the simplest mind and proceeding through amoebas, birds, monkeys, and human beings.
